James is a 4 year old boy and has very kind parents.That all changes when his parents are eaten up by a rhinoceros on a shopping trip to London. James becomes an orphan. He moves to his aunts, Aunt Spiker and Aunt Sponge. They are very cruel to James. 3 years later, he meets an old man who happens to know everything about James. The old man gives a pocket which contains something that looks like green crystals. He will live a good life if he puts the crystals into a jug of water and put 10 of his hairs, one by one. However, this fails after he fell and spilled the crystals under an ancient peach tree that never produces any fruit. Later, a peach was found on the tree and it grew rapidly. By the end of the day it grew to the ground. When James cleaned up the litter (of everyone who came to visit it), he found a hole on the peach and it lead him to the center. There he met new friends. Most of them were insects but all of them were affected by the crystals. They use the peach as a transport to escape from that little house on the top of the hill (the Aunts’ house), killing both aunts in the process. They kept on rolling. They passed a chocolate factory. They rolled for a long time and eventually rolled off the cliffs of Dover and out to sea. Time passed. They were eventually surrounded by sharks. Luckily there was Spider. She made strings and they were tied to the necks of seagulls. They were saved, but they were flying into “cloud-men”; these creature are weightless and create the weather. The peach broke a rainbow the cloud-men were preparing. They got mad and went after the peach. One covered Centipede with a thick coat of purple paint. It dried, making him stiff and unable to move. Then the cloud-men made it rain. Centipede was free. One of them climed onto one of the strings but Centipede cut that away. They kept flying. Morning came. They saw land. James noticed the skyscrapers and concluded that this land must be America, which means the sea they were in this whole time was the Atlantic Ocean. This alarmed the residents of New York. Word spread quickly athat the biggest bomb in the world (the peach) was going to land in New York. Across America there was panic. The President, who was said to be having breakfast, immediately called his admirals and generals from across the fifty states. Centipede had already started to bite off a few strings. After it began to fly down steadily, Centipede stopped. He just had realized that they were going to be on newspaper covers across the world so he told everyone to polish his boots. However, a commercial flight was passing through. It passed between the peach and the remaining seagulls, cutting away all the strings, making the peach fall into the ground with nothing to slow it down. Those who had not seeked underground shelter (as instructed by tv and radio channels) saw the peach falling and falling. Some of them (particularly women) screamed while others prayed. Some of them also said goodbye to their friends and family. For the next 30 seconds, the city held its breath. Inside the peach, James was also saying goodbyes to everyone. James could see that most skyscrapers had a flat roof. But he also could see one with a very pointy needle on top. And that was where they were going to land. *SQUELCH*!!! The needle went in deep into the peach. There it was, the peach had landed on the Empire State Building. A few moments went by. The people of New York soon realized that the peach wasn’t a bomb. People started pouring out of almost everywhere. Everyone got exited. People started guessing what the peach could be. Someone said it was a flying saucer. Another said they’re from outer space. Others said they might be men from mars. Some other person said they might be from the moon. Out of all of the people who were witnessing this event, there was a man who had a pair of binoculars. He said it was ‘pretty peculiar’. Police cars and fire engines came from all side of the city. 200 firemen and 600 police came into the Empire State building. Then they poured out into the observation deck, which was below the needle.The policemen where holding their guns, ready to shoot. The chief of Police ordered those inside the peach to come out and show themselves. First to get out was Centipede. This made 3 firemen and 5 policemen faint. Then grasshopper showed up. 6 more people fainted. Miss Spider followed. Soon everyone, except for James, had got out. Panic had broken out among the police and firemen. This panic stopped when James came out. James said hi to everyone and introudced the others to the people of New York. 5 minutes later they were all down and safe. They were brought to the Mayor of New York, who made a speech. In the meanwhile, the peach was being lowered. After that, the mayor announced that there was to be a parade. Suddenly a little girl ran up to James and asked for a piece of the peach. James said yes, and soon many others had joined in eating the peach. By the time the parade was over, the whole peach had been eaten up, and what remained was only the big brown stone in the middle (the seed). Everyone of them became famous, rich, and successful. The brown stone that was in the middle of the peach became James’ home. Everyday lot’s of children, from near and far, would come up to that house. Jame’s eventually got tired of having to tell that story again and again, so he wrote a bookAnd that is what has just been summarized.
